Protocols
So many of the things we want our students to be able to do can be accomplished by using protocols in the classroom. Protocols help students develop evidence-based reasoning and grow confidence as thinkers. They put learning into the students’ hands—and minds—by forcing them to think about texts and media in careful and deliberate ways. They also help students develop social and emotional skills by having them listen carefully and respectfully to each other.
Protocols create a space where collaboration and a shared sense of purpose are valued.
Below are some of our favorite protocols, and you can click on each one to find out how to use it in your classroom. Email us at office@theideaschool.org to find out more about using protocols to build a student-centered classroom.
